Keep adding two or three events per chapter to your plot line. Do not go beyond Chapter 14 as some students have not finished reading those chapters.
Write these events under assignment #4, highlighting the chapters and adding bullets for the events.
NEW ASSIGNMENT!!!
Look for pictures that reflect how you think each character looks. These can be current or past movie stars, current or past actors and/or actresses, or pictures you draw that reflect the images of the characters.
Create a collage with these pictures, putting the character's name under each picture. You can decide what materials to use for your collage. These will NOT be posted on the WIKI.
Be creative! Have fun with this assignment. It will be interesting to see how everyone pictures each character.
Due date: Wednesday, December 16.

Mr. Blore He is a very suspicious man. He is the only one who knows who is going to the island.
Joe,
Some good information. Remember to use compound and complex sentences like we've been practicing in English class; I expect you to use them in your writing. Mrs. M
12/2/09 Discussion Questions 2:
Assignment #2 (to be done in class on Wednesday, December 2)
Put a line between Assignment #1 and Assignment #2.
Read chapter two.
On your student page ABOVE assignment #1, choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.
I chose to do suspense.
Example 1 - "Name's Davis. Natal, South Africa's my natal spot, ha,ha! He laughed breezily. Mr. Justice Wargrave looked at him with active malevolence. He seemed like he wished he could order court to be cleared."
The suspense of this line is that Mr. Justice Wargrave doesn't believe that Davis is really "Davis". He knows or at least has a feeling that something is not right. Suspense is building up because of the way Mr. Justice Wargrave looked at "Davis". The suspense builds up higher because "He seemed like he wished he could order the court to be cleared." If it was just Wargrave and "Davis what would happen?
Example 2 - "Not all like Mr. Elmer Robson's parties. A faint grin came to Fred Narracott's lips as he remembered the millionaire's guests. Thathadbeen a party if you like-and the drink they'd got through!"
The suspense of this line is that who was Mr. Elmer Robson and who was his party? Why did Fred Narracott's have a grin when he thought of them? Also what did he mean by and the drink they'd got through? Another key word is had. What happened to the party? Suspense is building up because we don't know who Mr. Elmer Robson is and who his party members were. The fact that Narracott's smiled is very strange.
Example 3- "Not at all his idea of what Mr. Owen's guests were likely to be. He'd expected something altogether more classy. Togged up women and gentlemen in yachting costume and all very rich and important looking."
The suspense in this line is that why if Mr. Owen usually invites rich and important people to the island did he this time invite not so wealthy and not as important people? Does he know these people? Suspense builds because (from what we have read) it is usual that Mr. Owen invited the rich and important but not the not so wealthy and not as important. Does he have a plan for these people? Is it good or bad?
Example 4- "The sea..So peaceful to-day sometimes so cruel....The sea that dragged you down to its depths. Drowned....Found drowned....Drowned at sea...Drowned-drowned-drowned....No, she wouldn't remember....She would not think of it! All that was over...."
There is a ton of suspense here! Something must have happened during Vera's childhood that someone had drowned and had died or she drowned but survived. Something between the sea and her did not "mix". Why did she suddenly remember what happened at the sea after she read the nursery rhyme? Was it because of the line "Four little Indian boys going out to sea; A red herring swallowed one and then there were three."?
Good job, Joe. I like the way you include questions which are unanswered as of yet? The quotes you chose are good ones to develop the expense that is building. A little more attention to spelling, commas, etc. would make your writing more professional; when you post answers, it's like you are publishing for the public to see. You want things to look polished. Mrs. M
11/30/09 Discussion Questions 1:
how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?
how might the title be a clue to the story?
1. A mystery novel differs from a narrative because in a mystery there is a main problem or situation occurring that the reader is trying to solve. A narrative is basically a story that is not a mystery. (Examples: Harry Potter, Hatchet, Woodsong, ect...)
2. This Title And Then There Were None could be a clue saying how many people were left for something like a prize. It could even mean a murderer killing one by one "And then there were none left."
Joe-
Good start.
Check your spelling and punctuation. The sentence is #2 is a run-on.
